a lapland kind of day

It is only when the night comes that this day will stop being like Rovaniemi. Otherwise it's much like a Lapland day, late in May, with a changing and nearly never-darkening sky, and the feel of rain lingering on the air.

Much of my time there was spent sitting on the back terrace, reading the sky. It was a most delightful spot. I contemplated the soul connection between two people, and learned how important it is to relate on a soul level, and understand where someone is coming from in their own soul. But I understood this too late in my time spent there, and was unable to maintain a union with the man I went to be with.
I remember being on that terrace.. with him or without... but always with the faithful dogs, who understood me on a soul level; of this I am sure. My little saviours, two male Chinese Cresteds, who led me into the woods, where I dreamed, and often wandered without dreaming... just being... me and the wood and the dogs.
It was a fine moment in time.

Wishcasting Wednesday

In Jamie Ridler's blog there is wish casting wednesday. Today's Wishcasting is about "what do you wish to read".

I wish to read my own writing ... poetry and fiction, and if I'm drawn to it, even non-fiction. My first love is writing, and I want it to become a stronger part of me, as I've let it go by the wayside for too many years.

On Hybrid J's blog I read about a book by Eric Maisel, called "The Creativity Book: A Year's Worth of Inspiration and Guidance." I wish to read that book, too.

Fire, Sky, Ocean, and Fertility goddesses

Monday, April 27, 2009

(Looking for the Ocean Goddess? see here)

The day is unusually warm, at 90°. Just the day before yesterday I was shivering under the covers because it was so chilly in the apartment.

The onset of summer shows itself well before actually beginning. The true Spring has been laden with rain and grey skies. Hopefully this heat will pass and let some sunny spring days fill the sky.

I've been working on some stump dolls. One is Fire (or Embers), the others are Ocean and Sky. Here are some pics of them....

Also, I just started a Fertility Goddess, on a board. I don't know what prompted me to do this, but things develop that way. It's Spring, and fertility seems apropos of the season.

The temperture hit 93°F this afternoon!
I've worked on a vision board. I'm happy with it so far. It takes some time to find pictures/symbols to use on the board, so it's sort of a work in progress. Pics in the future, maybe.

an award for me!

Thank you so much to Melissa Haren for giving me for this award! I am so touched by her! Melissa does the most wonderful stuff with fabric and mixed media, so please give her a visit! I really enjoy her blog.

This Renee award was created by Bella and Ces in honor of their friend Renee. About the award, Bella says: this is a brand new award, and I have the pleasure and honor of spreading the seed, watching it grow. I hope it finds its way to those who are like Renee: the acorn, a small package becoming a tall and sturdy oak giving more acorns, becoming tall and sturdy oaks, giving acorns…"

Thank you again, Melissa!

I would like to send the award along to Stephanie, who has been very supportive of my blogging. Stephanie does beautiful photography, and makes the most wonderful sewing/artist tool rolls.

I would also like to give the award to my best friend, evie, who is a constant source of nurturing to my creativity, and who does the most amazing art!

Please give these folks a visit, you won't be sorry!

in an ordinary life, extraordinary things

The cold dank pool behind a waterfall... like ice around your ankles... dark inside, and the bright white rush of water the best way out...... Diving through, the sound of my heart effervesing in my ears/becoming the water. Diving into waterfalls; once was enough to remember the magical feeling for a lifetime.

Being on a jaunt with a friend, out to breakfast and wandering around town... And being gone for hours that registered only in our lives, and not according to the Greenwich Mean. A time warp, if you please.

Sitting in a stream in the Cuyamaca mountains, miles from civilization, and hearing the voices of the spirits on the land. After hiking for hours, deep into the mountain, and then chanting for a good long time in a lovely water hole... things/people come from the spirit world, as you move closer to it yourself.

Other things, too, that I may talk about one day... And things to come.

old dreams

In the darker place
where women write poems
and the scourge of life
rebounds against the psyche
I dwell for a moon
or two
and dig up old dreams
roughed up in the toil
of love poems looking like
so much sap

remembering

Every once in a while
I remember
that you are not here
in my heart
but somewhere in the ethers
Unknown now
another person
another life
not youandme
but something so distant
I can't see
It is only my remembering
that you're missing
that I know you were here
as the new clearing of my heart
waits for an evening light to skid
across its entrance
and soon
even the empty won't remind me

thursday afternoon

I was out early this morning when it was gray and misty. Saw that the cherry blossom tree, a block away, was beginning to bloom. And several trees, budding lightly. Crocus and daffodils are popping up in front porch gardens, and the sparrows are starting to get loud in the morning.

This afternoon the sun came out, and warmed up the day. My mom came for a visit, traveling a long bus ride on her motorized wheelchair (she has MS, and cannot walk)... she is so amazing at 81. She is safely home now.

A lovely and unexpected thursday afternoon.

opening doors

April is here already, and for both days the weather has been as gray as can be. The cold damp just sinks into the bones, and I was up much of the night with aching knees.

Last night, over Chinese take-out, me and evie were talking about what the Creative looks like. I asked, What does the front door look like? Mine was clear glass or crystal, and ev's was a big box of Crayola crayons. I saw my door as being perfectly clear, and then I got this in my fortune cookie: "To be mature is to accept imperfections". How apropos. It made me rethink my door, and indeed my whole approach to the Creative.

Much of what holds me back from creating is a need for perfection. Needless to say, there is nothing I can create that can come anywhere near that.... So, I do get past it, but not without much angst. I am always needing to learn how to embrace the imperfections, and get on with it.

So, I'll change my door to the type of crystal filled with imperfections..... and you know what happens? All the imperfections refract the light, and send off rainbows. How perfect is that?

What does the door to your Creative look like?
